Made by hand.
Backed by heart.
Sourdough by Juju Beans is Juliana, a self-taught baker with Italian-American roots and a gift for the craft that shows in every single loaf. She's been baking for years, but about a year ago she made it official, and Rochester hasn't been the same since.
She's backed every step by her husband Vedad, a Bosnian-American, first-generation immigrant and her high school sweetheart. Two people from different worlds, shaped by different struggles, held together by the same stubborn joy. Juliana was raised by her single mom, her Nonna, and her Nonno, whose love for food and family shaped everything Juliana does in the kitchen. Baking is the most honest way she knows to honor where she came from. Vedad grew up building a new life in a new country. Adversity they both know. Giving up, they don't.
That combination: the resilience, the warmth, the deep ties to family and community, is baked into everything that comes out of the Juju Beans kitchen. You'll find them at the Rochester Public Market and Rochester General Hospital, two places that say everything about who they are.
We care about what goes into every loaf as much as how it tastes. That means unbleached flour, filtered spring water, just salt, and a sourdough starter we feed by hand. When a recipe calls for more, we reach for clean and organic ingredients: local raw honey, farm-fresh eggs, grass-fed butter. The kind of ingredients you'd want in your own kitchen.
